Must read: How To Rank Up Fast in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 features a wide range of weapons. This includes assault rifles, SMGs, light machine guns, shotguns, sniper rifles, pistols and other weapons. Some of these perform like trash, while others offer incredible precision. This is why choosing an appropriate gun for your next match is very important, as each weapon has its own strengths and weaknesses. In this guide we’ve sorted all the weapons in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in tiers from S to E. Scroll down to see more.

S-Tier Weapons in Modern Warfare 2

In this tier you will find the best weapons you can use in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. All of these offer outstanding capabilities and will make you superior over the other players in the battlefield.

Kastov 762

Assault Rifle: Kastov 762

The Kastov 762 is basically an old-school AK-47 assault rifle. Compared to previous Call of Duty games, in which rifles similar to AK-47 sucked, in Modern Warfare 2 this is not the case. The Kastov 762 proves to be an excellent rifle which has a slightly higher recoil, but makes up for it with fast TTK.

Assault Rifle: TAQ-56

The TAQ-56 is another top-notch assault rifle. It is basically a Modern Warfare 2’s version of the legendary SCAR-L. The TaQ-56 can boast with good TTK, and very low recoil. Many professional players seem to prefer this rifle.

Assault Rifle: M4

There is nothing much to say about the M4. It it the most American rifle in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The M4 shoots bullets, eats mags, and kills everything on the other end of the barrel. The M4 is the first gun you’ll unlock in Modern Warfare 2, and despite that, you’ll probably continue to use it, as this gun performs incredibly well.

Assault Rifle: Kastov 74u

The Kastov 74u is actually an SMG, however, in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 it is put in assault rifle category. This means that this gun can equip assault rifle attachments, which in matches proves to be an overkill. The Kastov 74u is an incredibly deadly gun, and thanks to its fast TTK, manageable recoil, and great hip fire accuracy, it is very popular among professional players.

SMG: Lachmann Sub

The Lachmann Sub, or the MP5, is a Call Of Duty classic. It is one of the best submachine guns in the game, and just like in 2019’s Modern Warfare, it features very high TTK, and pretty solid recoil. The craziest thing about this gun is that you can equip it with a 50-round drum magazine and spray death all over the place.

DMR: SP-R 208

The SP-R 208 is a great choice for a marksman rifle and the first one you’ll unlock. It’s a one-shot kill to the head and torso, so as long as you can aim down sights quickly and hit your target, you’ll usually finish them quickly. In terms of setting it up, prioritize speed and ADS. Don’t worry too much about optics or increasing damage range.

Sniper Rifle: Signal 50

When it comes to mobility and handling, the Signal 50 sucks. However, this is the most powerful rifle in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 right now. It can boast with an incredible damage profile and surprisingly high rate of fire. It is the pinnacle of sniping in Modern Warfare 2.

A-Tier Weapons in Modern Warfare 2

The A-tier guns in Modern Warfare 2 includes a wide variety of different weapons that are not as good as S-tier weapons but provide all sorts of different options that can be further enhanced. These weapons can be easily upgraded and are able to provide an enjoyable shooting experience.

STB-556

Assault Rifle: STB-556

The STB 556 is a slower assault rifle, but is one of the strongest in its class. It is more accurate than other assault rifles and can pick off foes at very long distances. It is level 41 in loadout and is worth the wait. The STB 556 is not as effective as the M4 at close ranges, but more than makes up for that when trading shots with snipers and other long-range weapons.

Assault Rifle: Lachmann 556

The Lachmann 556 is a solid assault rifle that features manageable recoil and decent amount of damage. It is a bit slow compared to other rifles, but it features a wide variety of attachments which can improve its performance dramatically.

LMG: RPK

The RPK is a great light machine gun in Modern Warfare 2. It is very accurate, very mobile, and packs a decent punch. The recoil on this gun is manageable, and the iron sights don’t get in the way. The gun also features a wide variety of attachments which are common to the AK platform.

SMG: VAZNEV-9K

The VAZNEV-9K is a very powerful SMG in Modern Warfare 2. However, it requires more skill than Lachmann Sub, which is why we’ve sorted it in the A-tier. This gun has poor mobility, but its TTK is outstanding, especially in CQB. It also has a wide variety of attachments, which makes it very customizable.

SMG: FSS Hurricane

This SMG is an absolute powerhouse, with an unstoppable 50-round mag. It’s a powerful, fast, and remarkably accurate hybrid between an assault rifle and an SMG, making it exceptional in the current Modern Warfare 2 meta.

Shotgun: Lockwood 300

It is annoying, weird, and overpowered. The Lockwood 300 is an exact copy of Modern Warfare 2019’s 725. It is an incredibly deadly shotgun in close quarters, and is quickly becoming a fan favorite among many players.

Shotgun: Expedite 12

The Expedite 12 is an excellent shotgun for CQB. It will kill enemies in a one-shot at distance of up to five meters. The biggest drawback of this shotgun is that its damage decreases dramatically at higher distances, which makes it impractical for uses outside close quarters scenarios.

Sniper Rifle: SP-X 80

For quick scoping, the SP-X 80 is probably the best sniper rifle in Modern Warfare 2. Its ADS time is quite short, and the rifle itself delivers a lot of damage in close to mid-range combat. For long-range engagement this sniper rifle falls short of expectations, as its bullet damage starts to fall abruptly at 100 meter mark.

Sniper Rifle: MCPR-300

The MCPR-300 is the best long-ranged sniper rifle in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 together with the Signal 50 as a close second. This class is designed for long-ranged kills and minimal damage loss. Shots at the upper body result in 99% one-shot kill.

DMR: SA-B 50

The SA-B 50 is a marksman rifle that resembles old Kar 98. With proper attachments, this rifle can have an extremely fast ADS, and can boast with high damage. Overall, it is one of the best DMRs in the game, and be sure to check it out if you prefer playing with marksman rifles.

B-Tier Weapons in Modern Warfare 2

The B-tier weapons are still pretty decent weapons, but are objectively worse than S-tier and A-tier weapons due to their stats. Nevertheless, these weapons can prove quite useful, depending on your preference and playstyle.

VEL 46

SMG: VEL 46

The VEL 46 is a pretty good submachine gun that performs quite well at middle-range, and can boast with a wide variety of useful attachments. The VEL 46 can be equipped with a larger magazine, and can prove very deadly in CQB situations. Due to its low TTK, we’ve put it into B-tier.

LMG: RAAL MG

On paper, the RAAL MG is a fantastic light machine gun. It can boast with great stats, but its slow rate of fire makes it much less appealing than the RPK. This is why it belongs to the B-tier.

Battle Rifle: Lachmann 762

The Lachmann 762 battle rifle can be easily converted into a very deadly assault rifle. Thanks to its very high damage output, this gun is very interesting for use, but it won’t suit everyone’s tastes.

Battle Rifle: TAQ-V

The TAQ-V (or SCAR-H) is an interesting battle rifle. It features cool design and plenty of attachments, however, due to its very high recoil it is not effective for shooting in full-auto mode. This rifle works best when shot in bursts at middle ranges.

LMG: 556 Icarus

The 556 Icarus is basically a belt-fed M4. It features high mobility and high rate of fire at the expense of lower TTK. As such, the 556 Icarus is an interesting gun to play with, and it really shines in situations in which you have to provide suppression fire. However, due to its low TTK it is not very useful for quickly dispatching enemies.

SMG: MX9

The MX9 is a submachine gun perfectly suited for new players. It is similar to the AUG in terms of comfort and ease of use, but it is not as powerful in terms of TTK. It also does not have the same level of mobility as the higher ranked SMGs, which makes it difficult to use in competitive play.

C-Tier Weapons in Modern Warfare 2

The C-tier weapons can be considered as “bad”. These weapons will help you get kills, but must of the time they will cause more trouble due to their subpar damage, poor firing rate, or quirky recoil.

Fennec 45 Gold

SMG: Fennec 45

The Fennec returns in Modern Warfare 2 as the gun with the highest fire rate per minute. However, its TTK and damage output is quite poor. This gun will dominate in close-range encounters, but for medium to long range enemy engagement it is quite bad. You will likely to want to equip the Fennec 45-round magazine attachment as it this guns burns up ammo quickly.

LMG: HCR 56

The HCR 56 is simply an LMG version of the STB-556. Unfortunately, it is not good as its assault rifle variant, as it doesn’t excel in any particular department. It is a very mediocre gun, and unless you like its design, it is really not worth bothering with.

SMG: MINIBAK

The MINIBAK or PP-19 Bizon is a Soviet-style small machine gun that features very high rate of fire but low TTK. Overall it is very mediocre gun, as it can’t boast with anything special, and as such it deserves to be put in C-tier.

Assault Rifle: M16

Compared to Modern Warfare’s M16, the M16 is Modern Warfare 2 is a pretty poor gun. It works best at long ranges, but due to its high recoil, it should be only fired in bursts.

DMR: EBR-14

The EBR-14 is a cool-looking marksman rifle that inflicts pretty decent amount of damage. Unfortunately, it is not very well-suited for intense matches, and is only useful in mid-range combat where it does its job best.

Sniper Rifle: LA-B 330

The LA-B 330 is a fast sniper rifle which will be most useful in Warzone. In Multiplayer, this sniper rifle isn’t very useful, and there are much better options out there.

LMG: RAPP H

The RAPP H is actually not a light machine gun, and as such it is hard to put it into any proper weapon category. For an LMG, the RAPP H is very slow to shoot, and heavy to handle, however, it makes up for with good recoil control, fairly good damage output, and high rate of fire.

Battle Rifle: FTAC Recon

The FTAC Recon is a great choice for players who are struggling in medium-long range encounters. It’s not as powerful as a Sniper Rifle, but it’s still accurate and can kill an opponent with just one or two shots.

D-Tier Weapons in Modern Warfare 2

Rifles in D-tier are the guns in Modern Warfare 2 that are not worth giving much attention to. These guns feature very slow TTK, poor mobility, and come with various different quirks that make them inefficient in intense matches.

Bryson 880 Platinum

Shotgun: Bryson 880 & 890

Bryson 880 is the first shotgun you’ll unlock in Modern Warfare 2, and Bryson 890 is the second one. Once you unlock Lockwood or Expedite, you’ll never come back to these two shotguns. Why? You may ask. Well simply put, both of them suck. These guys feature a stupendously high recoil, and their firing range is pretty short. Overall, they both leave a lot to be desired.

LMG: SAKIN MG38

Compared to other LMGs, the SAKIN MG38 is very heavy and features slow firing rate. The good thing is that it deals a lot of damage. The SAKING MG38 is probably best suited for Ground War and not for Team Deathmatch, as in Ground War you are able to engage enemy from farther distance and have enough time to properly react.

DMR: TAQ-M

The SCAR marksman rifle is a decent two-shot semi-auto rifle in Modern Warfare 2, however, its slow rate of fire and weird trigger mechanics make it less appealing to an average player. The coolest thing about this gun are its plentiful attachments which are able to turn it into a very deadly gun.

Assault Rifle: Kastov 545

The Kastov 545 is an AK chambered in a weaker caliber. It has average stats in most categories, and a noticeably poor TTK that makes this weapon behind the rest of the ARs.

DMR: Lockwood MK2

The Lockwood Mk2 is an sold marksman rifle due to its well-balanced stats. It excels at long range, and its fast fire rate and mobility make it great for close quarters combat as well. It’s a versatile weapon that can be used in any situation, making it a great choice for a secondary weapon.

SMG: PDSW 528

The PDSW 528, or P90, is a mixed bag in Modern Warfare 2. The guns features some very cool attachments which makes it more enjoyable, but overall, this is a pretty poor gun. Sure, it can boast with very high fire rate, but other than that, this gun fails more often than not. Overall, it is a very weak gun designed for very few special purposes.

E-Tier Weapons in Modern Warfare 2

The E-tier weapons are the absolute worst in Modern Warfare 2. These weapons shouldn’t be used at all, and are absolutely worthless in the game.

SO-14

Sniper Rifle: LM-S

The LM-S is a pretty poor sniper rifle in Modern Warfare 2. It requires multiple shots to take an enemy down, which is why it makes no sense to use it.

Battle Rifle: SO-14

The SO-14 is probably the worst rifle in whole Modern Warfare 2. It is slow, has weak damage, and you’ll likely get killed before you fire enough bullets to your enemy.
