Fallout 4 is a great game, especially when it comes to modding. Although at the time of release the game didn’t appeal to many fans of the series, thanks to a huge number of mods you can now customize the game and make it more suitable for you. There is no doubt that post-apocalyptic Boston has its own charm, however, many fans of Metro and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games wish that Fallout 4 had more of that east European radioactive flavor. In this guide we’ll show you the best mods to turn Fallout 4 into a post-Soviet radioactive wasteland.
If you played any of Metro or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games before, then you already know that these games are slightly different compared to Fallout games, or any other post-apocalyptic Western RPG. Like other post-nuclear war dystopias, these games also have monsters, radioactive swamps, and old lousy guns, however, there is a great amount of melancholy in these games.
Worlds of Metro and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games feel utterly doomed. There is no glimpse of hope, only survival. In these games you can often encounter miserable NPCs playing balalaika, fellow soldiers patching their gasmasks with duct tape, and babushkas cooking radioactive stews for their grandchildren who are playing in the tunnels of Metro. If this is the kind of world you would like to recreate in Fallout 4, then scroll down below to find out the best mods to turn this game into a gloomy east European RPG.
1. Fallout 2287 – Gas Masks of the Wasteland
If you are looking to turn Fallout 4 into a S.T.A.L.K.E.R./Metro inspired game, than getting this mod is a must. Being inspired by the Metro 2033 itself, this mod adds equippable gas masks and filters to the Fallout 4. It also makes wearing masks mandatory in exterior areas, and gas masks consume filters that keep out of harmful radiation attached to air particles. The mod also makes other NPCs wear gasmasks outside, which is really cool. You can download the mod from here.

Polluted Climate is simply an amazing mod for Fallout 4. It makes the game much more immersive, as it transforms its overly vibrant and colorful world into a more harsh and unforgiving wasteland. 5. Subway Runner
Subway Runner is a super cool mod if you like spending hours and hours in dark subway tunnels. By default, subway tunnels in Fallout 4 usually have dead ends, and there is really just not much use for them. Most of the time you have go back the same way you came in through, which makes the whole adventure of raiding the tunnels tedious. This mods fixes this problem, as it connects 90% of subway tunnels in the game into a single subway network, which pretty much resembles to the Soviet Metro system.
6. Pip-Boy Flashlight
Although Pip-Boy Flashlight is in sixth place on our list, it is one of our all-time favorite mods for converting Fallout 4 into a post-Soviet nuclear apocalypse. Similar to flashlights in Metro or S.T.A.L.K.E.R., the Pip-Boy Flashlight mod adds the dynamic flashlight beam which emanates from your Pip-Boy. This helps tremendously elevate the gameplay experience, not only because it makes the in-game flashlight look more realistic, but also become it limits you vision cone, thus creating more suspenseful gameplay.

Unlike Fallout 4, in which you can hop around radioactive ponds without too much problems, drinking water from radioactive Volga in Metro Exodus, or collecting irradiate scrap around Pripyat in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. can be quite lethal. In our opinion, the Senescence is one of the best, if not the best ENB preset for Fallout 4. The Senescence preset adds a lot of brown, yellow and pale blue color tones to Fallout 4, making the whole gameplay experience appear more melancholic and elegiac. The preset also appears to be heavily influenced by Metro and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games which is a big plus.
