It Takes Two is one of the best modern co-op games we’ve seen in ages. The developer Hazelight Studios really set the bar high with their title when it comes to cooperative play, as It Takes Two successfully reinvented the genre, and brought a breath of fresh air to a somewhat stagnant gaming industry.
Besides featuring enjoyable gameplay and interesting story, the best thing about It Takes Two is that you can play this game with your girlfriend or boyfriend, friends, children, family, or relatives. It is a very teamwork-oriented game that throws you into an exciting adventure featuring beautiful environments and memorable soundtrack.
Although there is quite nothing like It Takes Two on the market, there are still some very good games similar to it, which are worth checking out if you’ve fallen in love with the genre, or you are simply looking for something fresh, yet similar. In this list, we’ll show you the best games like It Takes Two that you can play on PC today.
1. A Way Out
The most similar game to It Takes Two is without a doubt A Way Out, which was also made by the same developer Hazelight Studios. Just like It Takes Two, A Way Out is a coop-driven action game in which players take the roles of Leo and Vincent, a pair of criminals, that must work together to escape from prison. Both Leo and Vincent are complex characters with different personalities, and each of them has its own strengths and weaknesses.
Unlike It Takes Two, A Way Out is less family-friendly, and more serious, as it tackles serious themes, and difficult ethical choices. The game features an abundance of movie-like cutscenes and interesting dialogues, and it fully supports local split-screen, as well as online co-op play.
2. Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons
Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons is a beautiful epic fairy tale from well-known Swedish film director, Josef Fares and top-tier developer Starbreeze Studios. Although it’s not really a co-op game (since it supports only one player), the game features co-op elements, because it allows you to control two characters at the same time with one controller.
Story-wise, the game tells a tale of two brothers who are desperately trying to find a cure for their dying father. The only way to safe his life is to embark on a long journey and find “Water of Life” to save the old man.
Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons is a very emotional and memorable journey featuring some mature content and tackling serious existential questions. The game features puzzles, various locations, boss battles, and interesting gameplay, and as such should be interesting to fans of It Takes Two.

6. Trine: Ultimate Collection
Trine is considered to be one of the best indie co-op games of all times, and is also one of our favorites. It is a series of puzzle-platformers that offers many entertaining co-op experiences, and each new installment is equally interesting as the previous one.
However, like with any franchise, it’s better to start with the original and work your way up to the most current game, Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince.
In Trine, players take on the roles of three magical heroes in each game: Amadeus the Wizard, Pontius the Knight, and Zoya the Thief, with the opportunity to switch characters at any moment.
Just like in It Takes Two, each player possesses its own set of abilities that allow them to solve various puzzles, defeat adversaries, and explore the area with the assistance of their colleagues.
