In our opinion, Gigabyte’s G5 MD is the best 144 Hz laptop you can buy under $1,000 in 2022. It does just about everything right, and we aren’t sure if Gigabyte will be able to offer anything better in the foreseeable future. Equipped with a powerful Tiger Lake hexa-core processor, 16GB of RAM, and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti graphics card, the Gigabyte G5 MD proves to be an excellent budget laptop for 1080p gaming on high to ultra settings.

Although its meager storage capacity of 512 GB is a bit disappointing, it can easily be upgraded since there is space for two additional M.2 SSDs. The 144 Hz IPS display offers good viewing angels, sharp contrast, and solid color reproduction. The battery life of this laptop is pretty average, but the “Power Saving Mode” is able to considerably extend its life. The only major downside of this great entry-level laptop are its fans, which under full load are noticeably loud, but not excessively.

Speaking of additional features, the Gigabyte G5 MD comes equipped with a fully RGB backlit keyboard, integrated Wi-Fi 6, and 7.1-channel DTS:X Ultra high-definition audio. There is also an HD camera, three USB ports, one USB Type-C port, one HDMI 2.0 port, and one mini DisplayPort 1.4. Overall, this is a great budget gaming laptop that is able to offer lots of features for a reasonable price.

Best Big-Screen: ASUS TUF Gaming F17

CPU: Intel Core i5-11260H | GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti | RAM: 8GB DDR4 | Screen: 15.6″ IPS FHD 144 Hz | Storage: 512GB PCIe SSD | OS: Windows 10 Home

  • Competitively priced
  • 17.3″ IPS FHD display
  • Good gaming performance
  • Steampunk chassis design
  • Runs cool and quiet
  • Only 8GB of RAM (can be upgraded)
  • Mediocre screen quality

If you are looking for a budget 17″ laptop that is able to smoothly run the latest games at 1080p resolution, then the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 might satisfy your needs. This sleek gaming laptop comes with a pretty capable Intel Core i5-11260H processor, and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti graphics card. Unfortunately, it is only equipped with 8GB of RAM, however, this can easily be increased by installing and additional 8GB stick.

Probably the most interesting feature of this laptop is its large 17.3″ IPS display which can boast with 144 Hz screen refresh rate. Despite its great specifications, the quality of this screen is quite mediocre. Its color coverage is below average, and its maximum brightness isn’t very impressive. On the plus side, the black levels are very good, and there is no PWM flickering.

The TUF Gaming F17 features an RGB backlit keyboard which cannot be customized per key but only per zone. The chassis can boast with nice steampunk design, which also includes a physical notch on top of the screen that houses a built-in HD camera. The laptop runs cool and quiet, which is a big plus. In short, this is a pretty good low-end gaming laptop whose main flaw is its large and stunning, but mediocre display.

Best for Gaming & Work: HP Victus 16

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600H | GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 | RAM: 8GB DDR4 | Screen: 16.1″ IPS FHD 144 Hz | Storage: 512GB PCIe SSD | OS: Windows 10 Home

  • Affordable price
  • Elegant chassis design
  • Good system performance
  • Responsive input devices
  • Mediocre screen quality
  • Doesn’t have Thunderbolt port

The new HP Victus is an ideal laptop for penny pinchers and users who are looking for an affordable and professional-looking gaming notebook. In its most affordable version, which costs around $900, the HP Victus combines a Ryzen 5 5600H hexa-core CPU with a GeForce RTX 3050, which are able to deliver very good performance for the 144 Hz Full HD display. Unfortunately, the laptop comes with only 8GB of RAM, but this can easily be fixed by adding another memory stick.

Speaking of chassis design, the Victus 16 can boast with sleek and elegant looks, which makes it perfect for use in business environments. Featuring thin screen bezels, neat and orderly designed keyboard, V emblem on the display lid, and uniquely designed fan vents, the Victus 16 leaves an impression of a sophisticated device that doesn’t look too flashy.

The weakest part of the Victus 16 is its 16-inch display which is able to offer subpar color reproduction and average brightness levels. For everyday tasks it is more than enough, however, if you plan to use this laptop for video or image editing, then Victus 16 is not the laptop for you. Other than that, this is a pretty capable and elegant budget laptop that is well worth the price.

Best Budget: MSI Katana GF66 11UC

CPU: Intel Core i5-11400H | GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 | RAM: 8GB DDR4 | Screen: 15.6″ IPS FHD 144 Hz | Storage: 512GB PCIe SSD | OS: Windows 10 Home

  • Very affordable price
  • Decent 1080p gaming performance
  • Simple and elegant exterior
  • Very good build quality
  • Low fan noise
  • Doesn’t have DisplayPort connector
  • Only 8GB of RAM (can be upgraded)

MSI’s Katana GF66 11UC is without a doubt one of the cheapest 144 Hz laptops currently available on the market. Retailing at around $750, the Katana GF66 is able to offer pretty good system components, capable enough of running the latest games on medium to high settings at 60 FPS in 1080p, or eSports titles at up to 144 FPS. In its most affordable edition, this laptop comes with a very good hexa-core Intel Core i5-11400H CPU, GeForce RTX 3050 graphics card, and 8GB of RAM.

The Katana GF66 can boast with simple, yet elegant exterior, designed by well-known Japanese illustrator Nagano Tsuyoshi. The laptop is cased completely in black plastic, however, brushed surfaces, small angles above the display, the dragon logo lid, and angled hinges all contribute to the more distinctive design. The build quality is great, and there is also built-in RGB lighting which gives this laptop a more attractive look.

Despite its low price, the Katana GF66 can also boast with a pretty decent 144 Hz display, which is a bit too bright, but is able to provide very good color coverage. The lack of DisplayPort and Thunderbolt connectors is quite disappointing, but given its low price MSI clearly had to make some cuts. In short, this is a surprisingly well-made laptop which is a perfect option for users on a very tight budget.

Best with Flashy RGB: Acer Nitro 5 (Ryzen 5800H)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5800H | GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 | RAM: 16GB DDR4 | Screen: 15.6″ IPS FHD 144 Hz | Storage: 512GB PCIe SSD | OS: Windows 10 Home

  • Excellent GPU performance
  • Good quality 144 Hz display
  • Very good build quality
  • 4-zone RGB backlit keyboard
  • Easy maintenance
  • Cheap keyboard
  • Small battery capacity

With a price of around $1,000, the Acer Nitro 5 is the most expensive 144 Hz laptop on our list. Despite its high price, this laptop is well worth the money, since it features some of the best PC components you can find in a mid-range gaming laptop. Featuring an octa-core Ryzen 5800H CPU, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card, and 16GB of RAM, this laptop is able to run even the most demanding PC games, such as Cyberpunk 2077, at 60 FPS in 1080p.

Featuring angular chassis design, red color accents, 4-zone RGB backlit keyboard, and aggressively designed fan vents, the Nitro 5 looks quite flashy, and was clearly designed to be used by gamers. The chassis feels very stiff, and the overall build quality is on a good level. With a weight of 5 lbs, this is a fairly heavy notebook, and it takes up slightly more space than other laptops with similar hardware.

Compared to many other budget gaming laptops, the Nitro 5 can boast with very good screen quality. Its 15.6-inch IPS display supports 144 Hz refresh rate, and can deliver good brightness levels, however, its color coverage is a bit below expectations. Speaking of fan noise, this laptop becomes audible under full load, but is not intolerable. Small battery capacity and cheap keyboard are the biggest flaws of this laptop, but this can easily be forgiven given its fantastic gaming performance.

Best White Laptop: MSI Sword 15

CPU: Intel Core i7-11800H | GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti | RAM: 8GB DDR4 | Screen: 15.6″ IPS FHD 144 Hz | Storage: 512GB PCIe SSD | OS: Windows 10 Home

  • Powerful octa-core Intel processor
  • Decent gaming performance
  • Great build quality
  • Excellent cooling performance
  • Below average screen quality
  • Fans get loud under full load

In many ways, the MSI Sword 15 is almost identical to the Katana GF66. They both feature angular chassis design, as well as the same keyboard and touchpad layout. However, the Sword 15 takes a more creative approach, since it features white-painted chassis, white keyboard caps, and even white touchpad area. This gives Sword 15 a very unique look, which fans of white-themed tech devices might find appealing.

Under the hood, the MSI Sword 15 packs a pretty powerful 8-core Intel Core i7-11800H processor, paired with the GeForce RTX 3050 Ti, and 8GB of RAM. Despite its rather low storage capacity of 512GB, the Sword 15 also comes with an additional M.2 slot, meaning you can increase its storage capacity in the future. With 4GB of VRAM, the GeForce RTX 3050 Ti is capable enough of running most games at 60 FPS on medium settings in 1080p, however, the card really shines while running eSports titles, as it can easily deliver 144 FPS on average.

The screen quality of this laptop is pretty decent, however, its brightness levels are subpar, and its sRGB color gamut is pretty low, so if you are looking for a content creation laptop, then you should best avoid MSI Sword 15. Speaking of cooling and noise, this laptop can boast with excellent cooling performance, however, its fan do get a bit too loud under full load.
